Windows 7 Ship Party: Work hard and play hard
For years, Microsoft’s product ship parties have celebrated the great work of the diligent men and women involved in the finish products.
The Windows 7 team recently hit their release to manufacturer (RTM) milestone and rejoiced the occasion on our main campus with a carnival theme while Presidents of the United States of America rocked out with thousands of employees on a Friday afternoon.
I stopped by to check it out. We had a rock climbing wall, delicious snack and kettle corn stations, face air-spraying, fortune tellers (which had the longest lines), and a beer garden featuring local breweries.
Even in tougher economic times, it’s still important to celebrate hard work and amazing accomplishments.
Congrats to the entire Windows 7 team! Can’t wait until we see Windows 7 in stores in October!

I used to work in the Windows org and I have to say, those ship parties really can make you feel like all the blood, sweat and tears you've put into the product is appreciated. You get a chance to step back and say "hey, we built this, and it's awesome!" and you're reminded of where your product sits in the big picture - that it's something a BILLION people use. That still gives me goosebumps - working on a product like Windows really does mean having an impact. And that's something to celebrate!

I think that in tough and good economic times, people forget to celebrate the benefits of hard work accomplished. Professionals finish a project, acquire a new client, reach a milestone or beat the budget and then seamlessly move on to the next challenge or project. Without celebration of the achievements that we make, it is very difficult to realize where we have come from or where we are going. We simply continue to push forward, eventually losing our enthusiasm and passion for our daily lives. Nice to see a group still taking the time to say "Job Well Done", a lot of companies miss the point all around.
