Upcoming International Recruiting Trips!
Sorry for the hiatus from Jobsblog! I just came back from some international recruiting events where I was able to meet some smarties from around the world. I’m excited to say many will be joining us in Redmond/Vancouver/our other Development Centers this spring.
We still have great opportunities, so I encourage candidates from recent college grads to management level to apply now! We will be heading to a region near you soon to recruit for positions in Office, Windows, Search, etc. A majority of the trips are for Redmond/Vancouver opportunities, however we will also be recruiting into some of our International subsidiaries this spring as noted below. You can send your resume any time, but a good rule is to send your resume at least a month and a half before the trip.
Last note - below are the recruiting trips we have scheduled for the year. The location of the recruiting trip does not limit it to only candidates from that country. For example, we have a trip in Romania coming up in February where candidates across Europe will be invited to meet with us there. If you're selected for interviews we take care of travel and accommodations, assist with visas, etc.
Americas Recruiting – To apply if you are from Mexico or Latin American, send your resume/questions to sarec@microsoft.com. To apply if you are from Canada, send your resume to carec@microsoft.com.- January – Mexico
- February – Canada
- March – Brazil
- May – Brazil
- May – Mexico
Asia and Australia – To apply, send your resume/questions to recasia@microsoft.com.
- February – China (for opportunities in Beijing/Shanghai)
- March – Australia
- May – Hong Kong
- May – China (for opportunities in Beijing/Shanghai)
- June – Australia
Europe – To apply if you are from Eastern, Central or Western Europe, send your resume/questions to cerec@microsoft.com. To apply if you are from Russia, Ukraine or Belarus, send your resume/questions to russrec@microsoft.com.
- February – Romania
- February – Russia
- March – Central Europe/location of the interviews are to be determined
- March – Ireland (for opportunities in Ireland)
- June – Austria (for opportunities in Austria)
- June – Russia
Middle East/Pakistan/India/South Africa: It is my pleasure to introduce you to Jen Campbell – the new recruiter for this region!
She is wonderful and for candidates in this region, you’ll love working with her! I’ll miss working with this region, I really enjoyed my time with such a passionate group of engineers. However, moving forward, I’ll be targeting and working with candidates from Europe.
To apply, send your resume to:
- Pakistan – pakcv@microsoft.com
- Egypt – egyptres@microsoft.com
- Turkey – turkres@microsoft.com
- India – india_cv@microsoft.com
- All other regions - send your resume to mearec@microsoft.com.
As for our trips in this region:
- Jan – Egypt/Turkey
- March – Dubai
- June - Egypt/Turkey
Remember, you can always send your resume to http://www.microsoft.com/college/overseas.mspx. I hope to see many of you in the coming months. And like always – let me know if you have questions I can address!
Note to potential applicants: if you've had a phone interview before, it's a good idea to at least wait for six months before you reapply. Similarly if you've had an in-person interview, it's a good idea to wait at least one year before you reapply.

Hello.
I want to work for Microsoft and recruiters will come to Russia by february and june and I will try to get a job.
I'm not sure about my english level.
Could you give me some advices how to determine is my english level enough or not.
If it's not enough I will try to improve it and send a resume by june otherwise by february.
Thank you in advance.

Welcome, Jen - I hope you enjoy your new work!
Is March's Ireland trip exclusively for Ireland vacancies, or for US ones as well? (I'm in the UK - Scotland, to be specific - but wanting a Redmond/Vancouver position rather than Ireland.) A visit to Romania might be nice, but I hope that isn't the closest to here that the US recruiters get!

You say, "...I encourage candidates from recent college grads to management level to apply now!"
Can you offer a few "management level" job codes that don't require either "release cycle" or "previous MSFT" experience? Unless you're Scott Hanselman or Steve Jobs :) I don't see how you can get an entry-level management job at Microsoft.
Thanks and I look forward to the interview!

Hi Anne,
thank you for nice post.
I am in australia as permanent resident and currently living in Melbourne australia, and am citizen of India.
can you please clarify, whether I should apply to email address mentioned for Pakistan or Australia?

Hey Anne,
Its sad to know that you will not be associated with Pakistan/Middle East region anymore. I've had really good experiences with you and by far you were the *Most Responsive* of the three recruiters I've worked with.
Hope you do well in other regions too.
Happy Holidays!
Ayaz.

Anne...
Quick question. Where in Canada is recruiting heading to?
Anne Cheng said:
Lots of good questions:
Alexy - Functional english skills - written and spoken are required for the roles my team is recruiting for at this time. Maybe converse with your friends who are fluent in English. If you are able to comprehend the questions and get your point across - I would apply:) If it was uncomfortable for you - I would practice and apply later.
James - the roles for the Ireland recruiting trip is only for Ireland opportunities. We'll be in Romania and somewhere in Central Europe in Feb/March for US/Canada opportunities. However, I wouldn't worry about the actual locations of these second round interviews. If they don't work for the candidates we decide to invite - we will work with them on other locations/possibilities. We try to pick central locations for these interviews but we know it won't work for everyone so we can adjust.
Will - we have a variety of entry level and management opportunities. Not entry level management opportunites. Apologies if my post was a bit confusing. I was really trying to encourage all software engineers regardless if they are recent college grads or managment level to apply. No need for MSFT previous experience to apply. Let me know if I didn't help clarify:)
Ani - apply to the Australian alias:) Apply to the alias that corresponds to where you currently reside.
Ayaz/Haitham - thanks:)
Sean - interviews are typically in Vancouver or Toronto from my understanding:)
a. - Selection for the EMEA internship program will be occuring this month and next. Candidates who are a good fit will be contacted for phone interviews in this timeframe:)
Thanks everyone -

Hi Anne!
I have a question. I was interviewed by Microsoft before and got an offer. Unfortunately I could not start working because of problems with H1B. So instead I enrolled in a CS Master's program.
When I had already finished one semester Microsoft HR got back to me and offered me to come as an intern (as far as I know interns don't have to get H1B), with possibility of future full-time employment. I declined that offer, because I didn't want to leave university half-way through.
I am going to graduate in 2008 and I am thinking of working for MS in Vancouver. Is it possible for me to reapply? If so, should I contact my original recruiter or just send my resume to the e-mails listed?
Thanks

Hi Anne,
Thanks for letting us know this info.
For " To apply if you are from Canada, send your resume to carec@microsoft.com. "
Do I need to apply for a specific position or just send resume to that email address for general position?

Hi Anne,
Thank you for nice post.
Microsoft is my dream company to work for and am very passionate to work for microsoft. Anne, Does it affect my chance to get into Microsoft, if I have changed two companies in last 7 months?
thank you.

More good questions:
Holden - Congrats on your offer and sorry it didn't work out last year. Email the recruiter you worked with last and cc the above country aliases:) I'm sure it will work out just fine this year!
Paul - you can just send your resume - but feel free to list the positions you may be more interested in on the objective line or body of your email. In general - we consider all candidates for all of our software development roles.
Huseyin - looking into the Turkey alias error - will get back ASAP once it is resolved. Thanks very much for letting me know!
Nikhil - we do our best in centralizing our interview locations for all the candidates. For our recently interviews - we've used Dubai as a interview location for our candidates from India, Pakistan, Middle East. We also do a lot of local India hiring within India as well. Thanks!
David - changing companies within the last 7 months would not hurt your chances. Recruiters really look twice when it seems to be a pattern. Good luck!
Thanks everyone!

Dear Anne,
I would like to apply from Korea.
Assuming you want to interview me, would it be possible to get interviewed in March at Australia? Or do I need to wait for May?
Schedule posted for Asia:
* February – China (for opportunities in Beijing/Shanghai)
* March – Australia
* May – Hong Kong
* May – China (for opportunities in Beijing/Shanghai)
* June – Australia
I did pass a phone interview with a recruiter before but she told me no one wanted me so I'm kind of in the 'no man's land' right now.
Also I missed my chances for an interview in Hong Kong last year because I didn't check my e-mail frequently.
I hope I could get a chance for an in-person interview soon.
Thanks.

I have one silly question. If/when you get to the Great White North of Canada or any of the other locations, where do we see the location posted?
Shall we keep our eyes peeled on JobsBlog or what's the best place to see?
Thanks

ooops! Forgot. The location and the date/time.
Yep. Location would be REALLY helpful.
And I was serious about the "Krispy Kreme" donuts.
Anne Cheng said:
hello again -
Mohamed - I encourage you to check out www.microsoft.com/college - lots of good information regarding requirements and how to prepare:)
Alan - don't worry too much on those dates. If there are candidates that would be a good fit for our roles - the candidate and the recruiter will be able to chat about the various options. Whether it is to wait for the next offsite, or to interview somewhere a bit further to move up the interviews, we would be able to do our best to accomodate:)
Stefan - can you email me at cerec@microsoft.com? I'll look into your situation.
Nikhil - I encourage you to include your certifications if you have them:)
Sean - candidates who are selected for the second round interviews will be notified on the specific locations/dates/times. No donuts necessary:)
Thanks all!

Hi Anne and all JobsBloggers,
I have a quick question.. I am from Brazil, have applied for jobs at Redmond/Vancouver, and I am actually conducting a nice conversation with my recruiter about his upcoming visits here. Nonetheless, I'm also interested in applying for positions - open and future - @ MS Europe (Denmark and Ireland). I have contacted the recruiter responsible for Denmark about 2 weeks ago (after watching his video @ the International Jobs Blog) and got no reply from him just yet, but I understand that he's probably pretty busy and I don't mean to bug him. I was wondering if that's the best way to go, or if I should try another channel.
Also, I wonder if one candidacy would not hurt the other, or if I should wait more time between applying at different locations. I don't want to look "desperate" or "shooting in the dark", I'm just looking for a great software position in a great software company, and I'm pretty sure MS can provide that, no matter where in the world ;-)
Thanks for all the precious info you've been providing us! And sorry if my question was not that "quick". :-)
Cheers!

Fine no issue there. But let's just say certain candidates would like to offer their own swag like say Oh... I dunno... DONUTS to entice the 2nd interview.
No harm there eh?
Nudge nudge?
Poke poke?

hello Anne
you said before that a recruiting team will come to Egypt in Jan 2008. I would like to ask when and where exactly in Egypt this event will happen. I have sent my resume since last November and I haven't got any replies from Microsoft. I don't know what to do ??????????

Hi Anne,

So even I got hired by MS finally, I need to wait until 2009 fall in order to get a visa to US ?

am from egypt and I need to ask whether I should receive an automatic after sending my resume. If it should be, i didn't receive automatic replies.

Anne Cheng said:
Nikhil - we definitely look at a variety of things on a resume including the certifications you have. I would include if you have them:)
Moh - we've been receiving the resumes and working on getting autoresponses back up again as soon as we can. If you sent your resume - you are set!
Usman - No real preference on the subject lines - we look at every resume regardless:)
Salih - For the Jan offsite - the "/" stands for "and". Likely this will mean the same for the June event as well:) Rest assured- we'll work with the candidates on the locations/timing for the interviews if the above trips won't
work out.
Thanks everyone!
Anne
