Bite of Advice: Un-"markup" your resume before sending it off
If you use “Markup” in Word to track changes and edits to your resume or cover letter, but sure to remove all the comments before emailing a softcopy of your resume to potential employers.
By default on my computer, Word opens documents in “Markup” view, and I can’t tell you how many resumes I’ve opened that look like this:
So be careful. Make sure you aren’t sending out resumes with hidden comments.
And yes, Duncan is my dog, and no, he’s not available for employment. :)
Meow!

I know this picture is too wide, and it's messing up the formatting of my blog. I can't seem to get it to fit right on the page, but I'll fix it soon enough. Just don't complain that it's too big. :)

I've seen dogs as lead PMs before (typically Boarder Collies, German Shepards, and the occasional Corgi) but never dev leads. You sure I couldn’t schedule an informational with him?

Interesting comment on gl5 there ... did the reviewer actually suggest inflating the number of people on the team? Surely this is frowned upon?

Is it just me or is comment gl4 incorrect? Isn't Washington spelled exactly as it should be? W.a.s.h.i.n.g.t.o.n?

Somebody - thanks!
Mason - hee, hee. :) good one. And Duncan says he might be available to meet with you. Woof.
Rob - I have seen this before. And right, that's not good ... but only if the applicant actually follows the advice!
Brian - it is now, b/c the reviewer corrected it. Not sure if you can see, but the "n" is underlined and red.

I'm not sure which letter it is, but I'll bet it is not a lowercase English 'n'

lol. Well, I was going to post a little something to commemorate it. Thanks for realizing that! Also, Zoe and I are going out to dinner to celebrate. I'll tell her you all said hi!

Or it could be an Armenian small letter vo.
In Word, if you type in this sequence:
0578
followed by: <Alt> x
the resulting character looks just like a lowercase English 'n'
Word may auto-capitalize it though if you put it as the first character, so to avoid that, put it in after another character.

Thanks! I just edited the post to reflect that link.

Interesting suggestion. Infact this could be a good feature to take on office automation.
Maybe a Publish feature with MSWord/etc which can make a copy of the document available for sending by mail without hidden text.
Should be interesting to see jobs posted for this :)

Gretchen, do we have a grand party tomorrow? Jobsblog turns exactly one year old! You better invite your die-hard readers!!
Happy Birthday! ;-)
