Am I Applying For Too Many Jobs?

dear jobsblog Dear JobsBlog: Can a applicant get a bad mark for applying for too many jobs? Does that make it look like I'm really interested in the company or does it look like I don't know what I want?

Answer: Applying for too many jobs is a tricky one.  I think that it can hurt you if you are just randomly applying for every job in the system.

That said, I would apply for any job you think you are qualified for. If you are applying at a large company like Microsoft and there are 30 different marketing jobs listed and you think you would be a fit for all 30, then go for it.

But make sure to ask yourself: Would I really be a good fit for all of these? Probably not once you really think about each one, so I would then narrow it down to the top 5 or 10.  Applying for too many jobs is not something that would take you out of consideration for a position, but it may make a recruiter look you up in a system and think, "Are they serious? Is this person really interested in 30 jobs?"  It may lead to questions about your motivation, career goals, and self-evaluation skills.

Of course, this is just one recruiter’s opinion; every recruiter at every company may have a different perspective.

Having sat back for a refresher and giving the recruiters a break for a bit.

I have re-examined and retargeted.   Goal one.  Follow this one important tip you have given.

ANY dumb bum (ME) can do "clickety click" on all the jobs presented on the page.  (Even 80 a morning at 5:30)

But to TRULY focus your passion.   I want it.  I'm doing it.

    LOOK OUT REDMOND!

    I have a small problem.

    Just a little one.

After going through the 2,099 postings my mouse exploded.

Yes I am picking up pieces of a wireless Logitech mouse from the ceiling, the cat, some gerbils and an old 20" Monitor.

On the plus side it WAS a Logitech mouse.  I'm certain my Presenter 8000 would have fared a lot better....

But I DID finish my clicking away...  Somebody please call me back for February here in Toronto?  Please?  Free donuts and I'll promise not to roast you.   Well for a bit at least... :)

    Cheers all

So maybe I'm desperate - but I think I'm in a bit of a different position.  You see - I'm looking for an admin assistant position.  Honestly most of them require mostly the same things.  I've passed on quite a few, if they list the group and I know it's not something I want, but most of the positions don't list a group or product.  So YES, I am applying for many, many positions.  I know I have the skills, I am awesome at what I do, so I just keep applying and waiting.

-Hoping for a call very soon...

How long do the applied for jobs stay in the system, I see jobs I applied for 1.5 years ago still on my recently submitted. When do these role off? and is this the same as what the recruiter sees?
